Woollen Mill Competition 3rd Place

Last week I was awarded third place in a conceptual art competition. At the National Woollen Mill Felindre Dre Fach. My piece was inspired by the bond between a mother and a child and it being a keepsake. I was also inspired by the Foundling Exhibition with tokens of cloth, bonnets and hankercheifs left with abandoned children at a hospital. using felt and needle felting was also part of the concept with the fibres being bonded together using this technique.

kimono krush

I am loving all things Japanese and have been for the last 12 months particularly the traditional pieces and the patterns and obi belts...this has all come from the Full Bloom Theme i choose to use for my competition piece using an old kimono which i embroidered and embellished with ribbon embroidery.. I also used the image of Koi fish and did drawings and prints with them and quilting them and using TRAPUNTO technique which i love and of course water lilies

I wanted to give my own signature on this Kimono with it pulled back to look a bit contemporary but keeping the length of the sleeves and adding floral appliqued pieces as brooches which i will develop much later .

bits and bobs

hand made bags using upcycled facbrics which are then appliqued and quilted onto my tote calico bags i have made, each bag is one of a kind.

happy thought

The sun is almost out from behind the clouds and i have a million and one things to do. For starters I have to finish My piece for the Hand and Lock embroidery competition 2011.

I then have to do some ribbon embroidery samples and prepare for my final year of my degree with my dissertation, enterprise and visual research and at the same time give my to children a summer of picnics and trips to the beach and barbecues in the gardens with the teddies and cats.
